their best undercover cops. he was part of a new team that was just put together to handle the rise in violence happening in this city. >> thank you. a big turnout is expected in oakland when the city council votes whether to hire a controversial high-profile police consultant. the $250,000 contract brings on former los angeles police chief bratton who would advise police on ways to reduce the violent crime. not everyone is on board. tempers flared when protesters showed up to voice concern about possible racial profiling. bratton favors an approach call "stop and frisk" where police can stop anyone they feel suspicious. the oakland city council will take up the issue tonight. breaking news from houston. this is a campus spokesman at lone star college in north houston who has confirmed shots have been fired on this campus.

you are looking at live aerial views. there are lots of police there. the campus is evacuated. emergency responders are in that area. that is the campus library. there are unconfirmed reports of three people injured already. medical crews were seen tending to who victims outside the building and students are filing out of the building. we do not know conditions of the injured. no immediate information on the shooter or where his or her whereabouts are. you can see police action right there in houston at the lone star college where there has been a campus shooting. happening mouth in south bay, san jose police are investigating a home invasion robbery. several men broke into a home in san jose, tied up an elderly couple and stole several items including cars. police are asking the community to look out for green 2007 toyota with license plate

5xiu520. the second car is a toyota camry with license plate 3ung960. if you see either of the vehicles, call san jose police right away. >> there are frayed nerves in piedmont after back-to-back home invasions by the same group. three armed men kicked in the door of a home yesterday morning at 6:30 and robbed the people of the the half hour later a second home invasion happened near york drive. in that attack the suspect punched a victim and fired at another but no one was seriously hurt. police say a woman could be working with the men, as well. >> neighbors are calling a man a hero after he helped save five people during an apartment fire. the 23-year-old caught two children. then their mother was caught when she jumped from a second story enable the then she brought a ladder so other

residents could climb out. there was $1 million in damage. the fire started in a carport. >> new video this morning shows crews on the bay to fix the bay bridge tower fender that was damaged in an oil tanker accident two weeks ago. katie is live in san francisco with a closer look. katie? >> kristen, over my shoulder, you can see the bench pulled up to the base of the eastern tower of the western span of the bay bridge. i talked with a spokesman from caltran and he says the first phase is going to be incredibly labor intensive. we are on the embarcardero as the sun came up and captured the video of the repair barge maneuvering into place. caltran says there are ten workers on the barge but that will change depending on the

task of the day. you can see the closeup images of the crews. caltran has to removed damage fender completely which is more involved than after the hit on the judge in november of 2007. that was a massive wreck. but that was easier to fix because the fender was completely ripped off. the fenders are made of steel and 100 percent recycled plastic. this accident happened back january 7 and the oil tanker sideswiped the tower only damaging the fender and not the damage which is what it is designed to do but it is a costly repair. the crews are looking at between $2 million and $3 million.

caltran could go after the owner of the tanker to recoup the losses. it will fake a long time: 4 1/2 months is the current estimate and crews will work monday through friday, 6:00 a.m. until 3:00 in the afternoon. >> president obama is going the first full work day of his second term. this morning he attended a prayer service at the washington national cathedral after inauguration festivities that lasted well into the night. our news reporter is live in washington, dc, with what is ahead. karen? >> it is the first real work day but the president did not have substantive events. here is no surprise for you: the bitter partisanship we have seen in washington, dc, recently, did not disappear with all the inauguration fun. >> the inaugural parties and parade are over. now it is time for washington to get back to business. this morning, president obama

>> take a look at a rescue in spain. a woman fainted on the tracks as a train approached. an off-duty police officer sprang in action and jumped on the tracks and carried her to the far side as passengers yelled for the train to stop. the woman is fine. of course, that's very startling video to see. >> the hostage situation in algeria could be over but the stories of survival are just coming out. the wife of one american who narrowly escaped death is speaking out in an abc news exclusive. the woman from colorado says her husband hid from the terrorists in his office under the desk often before making a run for it.

with live breaking news. >> that breaking news is still in houston where there has been gunfire on a college campus. this is lone star college in north houston, you are look at the scene. we just got some confirmation from harris county emergency folks and they are saying, in fact, two people have been shot. in word on their condition. you can see a huge response there with people being evacuated. there is a shelter if place. the activity seems to surround the campus library. no immediate information on the shooter. two people have been shot on the lone star college campus in north houston. new this morning former california governor arnold schwarzenegger is making headlines saying he is still in love with his estranged wife. the interview came out in a german newspaper today. she filed for divorce last year as he admitted he fathered a child with a family housekeeper during their 25 year marriage.

he says despite the separation he spent christmas with her and their children. he says he still is hoping for a reconciliation. i could make a bad "i'll be back" joke but i wouldn't. is the rain coming back after this long dry period? >> go have rain on the way. now, i will show you what is going on first with our camera. we are looking from south beach back across the bay bridge and you can see the haze hanging around and the higher clouds with such a beautiful sunrise and it will make for a beautiful sunset. moving on i will show you the clouds, they look to be coming from mount diabolo. a little haze in the east bay valley from the east bay hills this morning. there is no "spare the air" day, although you saw haze out there. we will not have any, any time soon with a new air mass tomorrow. here is live doppler 7 hd reinforcing how dry it is outside right now, this time tomorrow we will be tracking

some showers and live doppler 7 hd as the storm comes in from the west. we were freezing last night inland, and you can see everywhere except for brentwood at 96 but i know people out there that had frost and the official reporting station says no frost but it did. redwood city is 32 degrees there so cold temperatures around the bay shore. that is last night. 49 in santa rosa and everyone else in the low-to-mid 50's but warmer than that in livermore and los gatos national bay, 59 and 60 in watsonville and mid-to-upper 50's for everyone else around you. we have high clouds and today is the last mild day with a lot of sunshine and showers tomorrow particularly on the light variety and scattered. unsettled, but we have that pattern through the week and we have a couple of chances of showers and cooler weather especially compared to today. we are 8 degrees warmer, oakland, livermore, and san francisco, and napa is 63 which

is five degrees above average. low-to-mid 60's from fairfield at 61 which is the cool spot and san jose and half moon bay around 66 and upper 60's to low 70's around the monterey bay and headed inland. tonight, 39 in fairfield the cool spot and everyone else in the low-to-upper 40's. in need to worry about the pets and the plants as far administration frost goes. now the plume of moisture from the tropics to the arctic in the huge high pressure holding it at bay, but this system is starting to make inroads into the highs in the form of the clouds we are seeing that is a thin veil of clouds keeping us from being frosty. 8:00, possibly again around 10:00 or 11:00, light rain developing in the north bay and in the afternoon hours, scattered showers develop and by 5:00, you can see it looks fairly good across the neighborhoods for the evening until about midnight and then

the showers start to fall apart and by 5:00, 6:00 thursday morning, they are gone, and the clouds are around so it will be another mild morning without frost. rainfall amount is .1" in the east bay valley and quarter to half an inch possible in the bay and the coast and the not bay but the constant is the cooler conditions looking to saturday and sunday and mid-for upper 50's and a few spotty showers during that timeframe also, and next week, mid-50's, again, so the warm weather is about over. >> good to know. did you hear the 49ers going to the super bowl? seriously! ata lot of the focus is on the throwing of quaterback kaepernick and his tattoos are getting a lot of attention. someone is cashing in on kaepernick's tats. this is him getting the famous
